1. 01

Open API Keys in your Wix account

Log in to Wix with the account that owns the site. Only the owner or a co-owner can create an API key; if you manage the site for someone else, have them do these steps. In your account settings, open API Keys, or use the link below.

    Or go straight to https://manage.wix.com/account/api-keys

  2. 02

    Create a new key

Click Create API Key. On some accounts the button is called Generate API Key. Give the key a name you will recognise later, for example Schakel.

  3. 03

Grant read access to orders only

Under the permissions, pick Read Orders in Wix eCommerce. Schakel needs nothing more: it reads your orders and never writes anything back to Wix. Then limit the key to the site you want to connect, rather than every site in your account.

  4. 04

    Copy the key

Click Create. Wix may first ask you to confirm your account with a code sent by email. Then Wix shows the key. Copy it straight away and in one go: Wix shows it only once. If you lose it, simply create a new one.

  5. 05

    Copy your site dashboard address

Open the dashboard of the site you want to connect. The address bar shows something like https://manage.wix.com/dashboard/1c3f4a5b-…/home. The part right after /dashboard/ is your site ID. You can also copy the whole address: Schakel takes the ID out of it itself.

  6. 06

    Paste both into Schakel

In Schakel, go to Connections, click Connect an account under Wix and paste the key and the site ID. Click Connect and test. Schakel reads an order from your site straight away to check it works, and saves nothing if it does not.

Worth knowing

  • Schakel reads everything that checks out through Wix: products from Wix Stores, bookings from Wix Bookings and tickets from Wix Events. They all arrive as orders and all become an invoice, with your customer as a contact in Moneybird.
  • By default Schakel invoices an order once it is paid in Wix. If you take payment on pickup or by bank transfer, you can have unpaid orders invoiced too in the connector settings.
  • Orders you imported into Wix from another platform are skipped. They were already invoiced somewhere else.
  • Schakel books an order only when its lines, shipping and extra charges add up to exactly what Wix charged. If they do not, it is not booked and your invoice overview says why.
  • If you delete or replace the key in Wix, the connector stops. Create a new key and paste it on the Connections page with Refresh key. Your connector and all its settings stay as they are.

If something goes wrong

Schakel says Wix refuses the key.
Wix gives the same answer for four different things, so check them in turn: was the whole key pasted (it is long and shown only once), is the Read Orders permission on, is the site among the key’s sites, and was the key created in the account that owns the site? If you doubt the first, create a new key under API Keys and paste that.
Schakel finds no shop on the site ID.
Check that you copied the ID of the right site, from that site’s own dashboard. The site also has to sell through Wix: with Wix Stores, Wix Bookings or Wix Events.
I am told I pasted a site ID into the key field.
The two are swapped. The site ID comes from your dashboard’s address bar, the key from API Keys. Paste each into its own field.
An order shows as Failed, saying the amounts do not add up.
Schakel books an order only when everything adds up to the amount Wix charged. Check the order in Wix. If it looks right, send us the order number through Contact and we will find what differs. You can then still invoice it from your dashboard with Sync single order.

Connectors that use your Wix access

Once you hold the keys, this is where they go. Every connector below talks to Wix.
