Connecting your WooCommerce shop
You enter your shop address and approve access in your own WordPress. There is nothing to install and no keys to retype. It takes about half a minute.
What you end up withA connection to your own shop, with read access only.
- 01
Enter your shop address
In Schakel, go to Connections and enter your shop address under WooCommerce, for example https://myshop.com. If your shop runs in a subdirectory, enter the full address, so https://mysite.com/shop. Then click Connect with WooCommerce.
- 02
Log in to your own WordPress
You land on a screen on your own shop, headed Application authentication request. If you are not logged in yet, WordPress asks for your username and password there first. That password goes to your own site, not to us: Schakel never sees it.
- 03
Click Approve
The screen says Schakel would like to connect to your store and lists what we may do: Read access to orders, customers, products and coupons. Nothing else, and writing is not on the list. Click Approve and you are back in Schakel with your shop connected.
Worth knowing
- Your shop needs to run on https and be reachable from the internet. A shop that only runs on your own machine, or sits behind a password, is not reachable for us.
- Permalinks need to be on in WordPress. If they are set to Plain, the REST API does not exist at the address we look for. Change them under Settings, Permalinks, for example to Post name.
- You can revoke access at any time, in WooCommerce under Settings, Advanced, REST API. The connector then stops syncing.
- Schakel never writes anything back to your shop. We only ask for read access, so orders, stock and customer data in WooCommerce stay exactly as they are.
If something goes wrong
- Schakel says there is no WooCommerce REST API at that address.
- Usually the permalinks are still set to Plain. In WordPress, set them under Settings, Permalinks to Post name and try again. Otherwise check that you entered the address of your shop and not of another site.
- The approval screen does not appear, or shows an error.
- Some security plugins block that screen. Use the manual route instead: click Not working? Enter the keys yourself and follow the steps below.
- The shop suddenly rejects our keys.
- In WooCommerce, under Settings, Advanced, REST API, check whether the key named Schakel is still there. If it is gone, access was revoked and you reconnect the shop with Reconnect on the Connections page.
- I would rather create the keys myself.
- In WooCommerce, go to Settings, Advanced, REST API and click Add key. Use Schakel as the description, pick yourself as the user and set Permissions to Read. Click Generate API key and copy the Consumer key and Consumer secret. You paste those two into Schakel behind Not working? Enter the keys yourself. They are shown only once, so copy them before you leave the page.
Connectors that use your WooCommerce access
Once you hold the keys, this is where they go. Every connector below talks to WooCommerce.
